New service manual page

I decided to move the service manual for the Champ to its own page.  You can find the page over on the right side of my blog.

You now have two options for viewing the manual, one is just .jpg images of the pages loaded like I had in the previous post, and now I've added a link to my Google Drive with all the pages in downloadable .PDF format.

Enjoy, your Champ will love you!

  1. Hi. My friend inherited a 1981 Champ in the same color scheme as yours. I promised to restore it for him. It has 707 original miles and it's been sitting in a garage since late 80's as far as we know. I am busy with a lot of projects so the only thing I've done so far was to haul it home. I downloaded the service manual (Thank you!!!) and I have the owner's manual at hand. I wonder if you have any tips on how to go about making sure it runs again before I proceed to bringing it to its old glory? I bet I need to start with cleaning the fuel and oil system and probably sticking a new spark plug in. Anything else?

    1. Just the basics, an engine needs spark, fuel and compression to run. I’d go over the harness make sure all connectors and ground are clean and metal to metal. Take out plug and kick it over and check for spark. If you have spark, with the plug out check compression. Put finger tip over hole firmly and kick it (you may beed to use your arm to kick it) if theres a good “puff” on your finger compression is good. If it has sat for several years you should take out the carb and completely disassemble and clean and reassemble. You may need to prime it to get it to fire, or use starter fluid. If the bimetal valve is corroded and not working, you may need to circumvent it (finding working used let alone new ones are next to impossible), these engines were way over engineered but mechanically excellent. Unless the cylinder or case is cracked it will likely run. Good luck, have fun!

    1. There’s a number of things which could be going on, but for any engine you need three things to run. You need; fuel, spark and compression. If the bike was just running it’s probably not serious, just a typical issue it’s probably either spark or fuel. To start, take the plug out and verify it has spark. If it does you probably have a fuel issue, verify fuel is flowing into the carb. If it is you probably need a good carb cleaning. I’ve had times of forgetting to put the start switch to run, it happens. https://youtu.be/A-TIKalfxd0
